Our Environmental Commitment
For several years now, Novo has been a signatory to the Australian Packaging Covenant (APCO). A federal Governments initiative to collectively join with other Australian organisations to manage the environmental impacts of packaging in Australia. Our stand is to:
- Develop a strategy that includes goals and targets for packaging sustainability that addresses the Sustainable Packaging Guidelines (SPGs) or equivalent.
- Include a commitment to achieving the 2025 National Packaging Targets.
- Regularly communicate and promote packaging sustainability objectives and targets with suppliers, customers and within our organisation.
- Regularly engage or communicate with our external stakeholders about the environmental impacts of our packaging (see Our Supplier’s Assurance)
Actions to date include:
- We provide our consumers with environmental options of a nonwoven reusable tote or paper bag.
- We have introduced the use of recycled materials from landfill in some of our product ranges.
- Our high-volume product range is now using a canvas bag that has been made from landfill.
- We are currently phasing out the packaging on our “shoe care” range with recycled materials.
- Our Novo Projects Team are working with suppliers and contractors who are committed to incorporating recycling and end-of-life materials and processes into their design and production practices.
- We have started our journey on recycling end of life product from our DC with UPPAREL | Leading the Change for the Next Generation
We are continually monitoring our environmental impact and are committed to reducing our carbon footprint.
Our shoe boxes are now fully recyclable: We’ve taken a significant step toward sustainability by ensuring that every component of our shoe boxes can be recycled. This includes the paper inside the box as well as the stuffing, so you can feel confident knowing that each part of the packaging has been carefully designed to minimize environmental impact.
Our shoe box print now uses soy ink: In our commitment to eco-friendly practices, we’ve switched to soy-based ink for the printing on our shoe boxes. Soy ink is not only more sustainable than traditional petroleum-based inks, but it's also a true "eco-friendly superhero" in the printing world. By using soy ink, we’re helping to reduce air pollution and decrease the use of harmful chemicals, all while ensuring that our packaging is vibrant and visually appealing.
We are using 100% recycled materials for our shoeboxes: Our shoeboxes are made from 100% recycled materials, meaning we’re giving new life to previously used paper and cardboard. This initiative reduces the need for new raw materials, which helps conserve natural resources and reduces waste. We’re proud to be part of a global movement toward more sustainable packaging. Our Supplier's Assurance
Novo has set very high standards with our valued suppliers to ensure all our products are manufactured in a workplace which has respect for human rights, adherence to ethical behaviour and addresses our changing environment. We continue to develop and refine our “supplier code of conduct” that requires compliance with all such assurances before product is shipped to Novo.
We require that all our suppliers sign the code of conduct before product is manufactured and we monitor compliance accordingly. To view a copy of the code of conduct you can click Here.
We are also qualified to display the “PeTA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) approved vegan logo” which requires a pledge not to conduct or commission any animal tests on ingredients, formulations, or finished products and as such Novo ensures that suppliers undertake to comply with this pledge.
